Our Story
Amanda and Jeff Newman opened Carmel Consignment in 2002, subsequently adding a furniture store in Carmel and a men's consignment shop in Broad Ripple, Newman & Co.. The businesses, staff and consignors continued to grow. In 2011, Sara Baldwin and the Newmans’ son, Wyatt, joined the team to help open a teen clothing store, The District Exchange. The unique location on Main Street in Carmel was conducive to hosting events like outdoor concerts and charity fundraisers. Amanda, Sara and Wyatt worked together to coordinate these efforts.
Today, the Newmans have combined the three Carmel locations into one expansive space at 715 E. Carmel Drive. This is Amanda’s Exchange, specializing in women’s clothing and accessories as well as furniture and home goods, plus children's boutique and better-brand items! Newman & Co. is their Broad Ripple location– selling a broad range of men’s clothing, shoes, accessories, and jewelry with a smaller selection of furniture and home goods.
Sara now owns her own store, Lux & Ivy, a vintage and sustainable lifestyle shop in Broad Ripple. Lux & Ivy carries more than 40 local and independent brands, as well as a tightly curated selection of vintage, secondhand and sustainable clothing. Inventory varies from every day outfits, statement vintage, ritual and self-care to jewelry, gifts and more!
After organizing and participating in several successful outdoor vintage markets in Indianapolis, Sara rejoined the Amanda’s Exchange team in 2019 to help make Amanda’s dream of a large artisan market a reality. The very first Amanda’s Market in June of 2019 had 35 vendors and more than 2,000 attendees.
With their combination of skill sets and clientele, Amanda, Sara and Wyatt have created a north side market experience that is unique and exciting. Come see for yourself – don’t miss out on the next Amanda’s Market.
